Skeletal muscle refers to a type of muscle found in the human body that is attached to bones by tendons. These muscles are responsible for voluntary movements such as walking, running and lifting objects. They also help maintain posture and generate heat to maintain body temperature. Skeletal muscles are composed of long, cylindrical, multinucleated cells called muscle fibers that contain the protein myosin which is responsible for generating force and movement when it binds with actin filaments. These muscles also have a high degree of strength and endurance compared to other types of muscles in the body such as cardiac or smooth muscles.
